Yard Operative – Gloucester

Smiths has grown from a single owner-operated plant hire company to a multifaceted group with family values still firmly at the heart of each project undertaken. With depots in Avonmouth, Cardiff, Gloucester, Stonehouse and Tewkesbury we operate predominately across the South-West of England. We specialise in Construction, Waste Management, Plant Hire, Demolition and Transport operations.

Responsibilities for the job role:

• Operating mobile and fixed plant.
• Hand sorting and grading of scrap metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous.
• Checking loads for any quality and raising any issues to the site management team.
• Carrying out scrap metal collections from customers premises ensuring a high level of service.
• Ensuring outgoing loads have been checked for quality and payloads maximised.
• Willing to work as part of a team, ensuring all works are done safely.
• High level of housekeeping required at all times.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures (including but not limited to) those specified in the employment handbook, health and safety policy and EMS system.
• Ensure compliance within the operation area with all company procedures, statutory legislation and industry good practice.

• 360 & Forklift experience preferred but not essential as full training provided.
• Must have a full driving Licence.
• Prior waste/recycling or similar process environment highly advantageous.
• Enthusiastic and committed.
• Committed to improving processes and procedures and ability to embrace change as required.
